Jail
Within Rhyolite stands the remains of a prison, whose natural texture was supplemented with stains and vandalistic carvings. While photographing the remnants of the building, I recalled watching reruns of “Gunsmoke” when I was younger and the actors depicting jailed drunks and prostitutes. Fully operational at the turn of the last century, I wondered how many people, forgotten by family and in some cases society, spent days within the walls of this jail.
