Within Rhyolite stands the remains of a prison, whose natural texturewas supplemented with stains and vandalistic carvings. While photographing theremnants of the building, I recalled watching reruns of “Gunsmoke” when I wasyounger and the actors depicting jailed drunks and prostitutes. Fully operational at the turn of thelast century, I wondered how many people, forgotten by family and in some casessociety, spent days within the walls of this jail.
