The Kuna Swastika represents the octopus who created the world in Kuna legend, it’s tentacles pointing to the four directions and four winds. The flag of Kuna Yala was adopted in 1925, and is based on a swastika design, an ancient symbol in Kuna culture. I photographed a variation of the symbol which was found on the terrace of a building. In 1942 a ring was added to the center of the flag to differentiate it from the symbol of the Nazi party. This probably dates back to that time.
